Creative Dragon Images for Celebrating CNY 2012

I happily held my first round of trial art lesson in January (before CNY celebration) to attract more children and parents, at the same time also share around my art teaching vision and objectives in contributing to the children art education.
I spent 1 week of intensive preparation, from flyers designing and distribution, meeting up with parents face-to-face at the shopping malls, art materials shopping to venue decoration, I was busy working out day and night.
As this was the first time of organizing and facilitating an event ALL by myself, I was quite nervous, but felt very exciting and wondering what kind of kids would come for the trial class! When it was the time, I started hearing the exciting voices of little angel kids coming up from the entrance. Then, I could see them coming in one by one happily. The youngest kid was a 3-year-old girl, and the eldest, I had two 14-year-old big girls to join the activity.
The Youngest Angel in the class.
After settling down the kids at their seats, I started off the mission of that day – Create Your Own Dragon Image to Cheer up Your House ! When I asked the kids about Dragon, many of them didn’t really have any ideas on how exactly a dragon looks like, especially those very young kids… Hahahaha… So I need to inspire their imagination slowly in order for them to create their own original image of Dragon, rather than showing them the sample pictures of Dragon which will destroy their imagination.

Guiding these 3 small angels One by one....
on how to write a very simple Chinese character "吉"
using Chinese calligraphy.
This interesting mission consisted of 4 steps. I led them step-by-step that involved a few abilities of the hands : drawing, paper cutting, paper gluing and Chinese calligraphy writing. The younger kids would definitely need guidance that required a lot of patience as they were experiencing paper cutting & gluing and calligraphy writing for the very FIRST time in their life! What an important exploration process and hand function development for them using their little hands!  A few parents were with us too throughout the whole session. They were busy taking photos on their little angels. The whole classroom was filled with graceful classical music and laughter.
Mission accomplished ! Unique dragons on the wall !

When all the 4 steps were done, a beautiful unique art décor for CNY was ready to be hung on the wall. The kids were very happy and satisfied to see their own creation ! The parents were very proud at their little angels too. They were interested to know further about children art and why children art is essential for a child’s development since young. Of course, I’d LOVE to share what I know with those parents.

At the end of the day, my intentions and objectives had achieved: the kids enjoyed my activity and learnt something fun; parents could see closely how I teach in the class; the kids had something unique to bring home for décor full with self-achievement and joy.
